LADYBOWER RESERVOIR

HALF MARATHON & 50K ULTRA – 14th October 2023

One of the largest reservoirs in the country, Ladybower Reservoir provides the perfect location for running in The Peak District.

Half Marathon & 50K Ultra

The 50K route consists of a hilly loop on a mix of surfaces including trail, gravel and road. The route involves climbing Win Hill and traversing west, all the while enjoying unbelievable views over the reservoir. From here you will descend to a double track road along the waters edge, before crossing the dam into Heatherdene parking and your first Aid Station. From here you will make a full circumnavigation of Labybower reservoir, passing two further Aid Stations along the way. Next is an ascent of Whinstone Lee Tor, before crossing the A57 and heading back up onto Stanage Edge.

The Half Marathon also starts at Bamford Recreation ground, following the Thornhill Trail to the dam before passing through the Heatherdene aid station. From here you cross the A57, running on the Eastern shores of the reservoir, before ascending Whinstone Lee Tor, crossing back over the A57 and heading up onto Stanage Edge.

Throughout the 50K race you will climb and descend approximately 1500m, a great challenge for anyone looking to complete their first ultra distance trail race! The Half Marathon course involves around 550m of ascent and is an adequate challenege in of itself.
